Clogged pores are comedones that can show as either blackheads or as white bumps/whiteheads and form when dead skin cells combine with excess sebum and other debris in the pore lining. If the pore is open at the skin’s surface, it oxidises and turns a blackish colour. The white bumps are covered by a thin layer of skin, so do not oxidise and turn black. Blackheads are known as “open comedones” while white bumps are “closed comedones".
