Acne

Acne develops when the oily substance that lubricates your skin called sebum combines with dead skin cells to form plugged follicles. The pore you see on the surface of your skin is an opening to a canal called a follicle. When follicles are plugged, it causes whiteheads, blackheads and congested skin. It is when the sebum is blocked from doing what it needs to do, coming to the surface to lubricate the skin that it builds then colonises bacteria and, hey presto, there is the dreaded spot (or you may prefer to call them pimples!). The bacteria is anaerobic (no oxygen) which simply means it festers under the surface where it triggers inflammation and infection, resulting in more severe acne.

If you are unsure of where to start, these simple steps are a guide for morning and evening to help you achieve clearer skin.
