How to treat Eczema

Caring for skin that suffers with Eczema

For those that suffer with Eczema finding the right skincare routine can be particularly difficult. Eczema is a dry skin condition and symptoms vary from person to person. It is not contagious and in mild cases the skin is dry, scaly, red and itchy. More severe cases can experience weeping, crusting and sometimes bleeding.

Eczema affects all ages, children are particularly prone due to differences in their skin and immune systems, sometimes it passes and sometimes it returns later in life. If you suffer with eczema, your skin may not produce as many oils, it also breaks down more easily and can be less able to retain water which compromises its protective barrier.

The most common triggers are harsh soaps and washes that alter the skins PH level, including shampoos and detergents used for washing.

Although frustrating there are ways in which you can manage the condition. We can help you to find a regime that works with your skin, our specialist preparations are hypoallergenic and have been formulated for hypersensitive skin.

Here are some things that you can do to help -

🌱 Choose skincare that is un-perfumed and without irritants such as parabens and alcohol. Our Calming & Desensitising Gel is an anti-trauma gel that addresses reactive, inflamed and irritated skin. It soothes and promotes healing, allowing the skin to re-discover a sense of comfort.

❗️Avoid harsh exfoliators and anything that strips the skin of its natural oils. Instead opt for gentle daily nurturing that will maintain healthy skin regeneration. The Specialist Serum with Retinyl Palmitate and Aloe Vera gently encourages cell renewal and aids skin healing too.

💧  Nurture the skins protective barrier by keeping hydrated. You can replenish moisture and help prevent bacteria reaching the deeper layers of the epidermis with our Problematic Skin Gel, designed to hydrate, soothe and act as an anti-bacterial treatment.

📝 Try to identify your triggers by keeping a diary. Note any changes, for example a simple change in laundry detergent can cause flare ups.

☀️ Protect your skin by applying UVA/UVB SPF each day. We recommend our Oxygenating Protecting Body Moisturiser with SPF20 as it safeguards skin from the environmental threats that attack its protective barrier. This gentle cream deeply nourishes and restores dry skin areas. For the face see Oxygenating Moisture Protection and Oxygenating Night Cream

🚿 Make sure showers aren’t too hot, pat your skin dry gently instead of rubbing.
