For some of us menopause can hit pretty hard, after all it is a huge life change that can be extremely overwhelming so it’s no surprise that most of us will be aware of the subsequent changes to our skin.
Studies show that during the first 5 years of menopause our skin loses around 30% of its collagen and whilst we can’t thicken the skin, we can prevent further thinning and improve its plumpness.
We have been helping women overcome these changes for many years and are here to help you work with your changing skin. We hope that these tips below will help to guide you however we can offer confidential and personalised advice so please do get in touch
Loss of elasticity – As the oestrogen level drops our collagen and elastin production reduces which results in a less plump skin. By including skin firming, collagen boosting ingredients such as DMAE, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol and Peptides into your regime you can help to replenish what is lost naturally. See Super Lifting Serum, Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenation Cream, Hyaluronic Active, Revitalising & Firming Primer, Silhouette Body Firming Gel.
Your skin bruises more easily – due to the drop in hormones the skin has become finer and therefore bruises and wounds heal more slowly. By applying an SPF every day, you can help prevent further thinning. Apply to all exposed areas, face, neck, hands. Have you ever tried applying our Specialist Serum to a wound or bruise? It is a fabulous skin healer as it promotes cellular repair. We recommend that you apply The Specialist Serum to any areas of skin damage regularly. Also our daytime moisturisers contain an SPF of 15 or 20.
Your skin has become drier and susceptible to irritation- The PH level of our skin changes at about 50 leaving it drier than before. This can mean that your skin is more easily irritated and can to react to ingredients that previously worked well for you. If this is the case our Calming & Desensitising Gel can be used as a treatment to reduce irritation, redness and act as a hydrating, protective barrier when applied prior to your serum and moisture creams. Give your skin the hydration and nourishment that it needs to keep the barrier intact and prevent irritation. We recommend Hyaluronic Active, High Potency Collagen Night Cream, Oxygenating Moisture Protection and Oxygenating Night Cream.
Whilst all of our moisturisers are suitable for hypersensitive skin, we are always happy to help you find the perfect match.
Age spots and other signs of sun damage - As we age our skin produces less melanin, making us more vulnerable to sun damage. Wearing a sunscreen every day with a high SPF will help to prevent unwanted pigmentation concerns. The Specialist Serum and Super Lifting Serum are effective to help regulate uneven skin tone and sun damage. Age Defying Hand Cream targets age spots and contains UVA/UVB SPF20. Neck & Décolleté Rejuvenation Cream helps combat the specific sun damage that occurs on the chest and neck. Oxygenating & Protecting Body Moisturiser gives the ultimate moisturising experience with SPF20.
Hormonal spots have appeared – more relaxed pores can often appear larger and become more easily blocked, leading to blackheads and whiteheads. Because your skin is drier, treatments for teenage skin are often too harsh. Our Gentle Cleanser & Eye Make-up remover is perfect for a gentle thorough cleanse. Alternatively washing with a cleanser containing salicylic acid will help to unclog blocked pores… watch this space for our *new cleanser with salicylic acid coming very soon.
To unclog blocked pores, try a weekly mask, we recommend Clarifying & Exfoliating Mask, as it is gentle yet very effective. Problematic Skin Gel targets and helps treat Rosacea and pustular activity whilst The Specialist Serum oxygenates the pores to promote a clearer complexion.
Tiredness under eyes – a change in sleep pattern can leave your eyes looking and feeling tired. Look for ingredients that reduce puffiness and brighten darkness. We recommend Rejuvenating & Protecting Eye Gel with natural eyebright extract in the morning and Precious Eye Cream at night to target fine lines, eye bags and puffiness.
Remember Serums are your superheroes – they specifically target lines, wrinkles and age spots and can get the active ingredients to the depths of your skin to work to their most efficient.
