Exfoliation Tips

Exfoliating is great for sloughing away those dead skin cells that sit on the outer layer as the new cells replace them but why do we need to get rid of them?
By removing these dead cells, it helps prevent our skin appearing dull and the pores becoming blocked, which also allows for proper absorption of our products so that they can work to their best ability.

It does depend on your skin type and concerns but as a general rule we recommend that you exfoliate 1-2 times per week. If you aren't sure what is right for you, please don't hesitate to ask us.

Here are some tips for effective exfoliation
Face
  • Use a gentle product a couple of times a week as opposed to once a week with a product that causes irritation.
  • Before applying your exfoliator apply a serum or eye cream to protect the delicate skin surrounding the eyes. With the exception of Soft Honey Peeling Mask as this can be applied to the area surrounding the eyes.
  • Leave the exfoliant on your skin for a minute or two before removal to allow its properties to break down pore blocking impurities
  • Use gentle pressure to spread the exfoliant over your skin for no more than 30 seconds.
  • Rinse off thoroughly with warm water and apply a nourishing serum and moisturiser.

Body
  • Feet, elbows and knees have thicker skin and can withstand more intense exfoliation.
  • Do not leave loofahs and brushes in the shower as they easily breed bacteria and mildew.
  • Leave the exfoliant on your skin for a minute or two before removal to allow its conditioning properties to take effect
  • Wash off thoroughly in warm running water (as opposed to a bath) to wash away the dead cells that have scrubbed off. The warmth of the shower softens the skin, helping to release natural oils.
